Outstanding Radar Remote Sensing Book
A comprehensive story of radar remote sening written by the guruhs of synthetic aperture radar. Very application oriented and not such crypitc collection of mathematical/physical hard core stuff. Well done! A bit on the expensive side due to its dimensions and colorfulness! This book is what I was waiting for!

Wonderful piece on Black American Inventors!
The author describes the life and work of two female and three male African American Inventors and Scientists, including the contributions of agriculturalist George Washington Carver and Nigerian-born computer scientist Philip Emeagwali.

The search engines contain a thousand supplementary references to Carver or Emeagwali.

The stories are filled with the themes of perseverance and overcoming obstacles.

The inventions described include massively parallel supercomputers, petroleum reservoir simulation and oil recovery, uses of peanut, lasers for eye surgery, and a new way to make rocket fuel.

Excerpts read: "Emeagwali programmed the Connection Machine to make 3.1 billion calculations per second.... This speed was a new world record in 1989.... The record breaking speed of Emeagwali's invention helped people understand the value of parallel computing."

The photographs of the inventors and the illustrations of their inventions make this a useful book for K-12 school assignments on inventors.

This book is a must for math, science and black history related school assignments.

Algonquin
Henderson writes in prose that do for the bird dog what Mclean has done for fly fishing. He writing is redolent of Melville or Homer. Well worth the read.

Short biographies of women who have made a difference.
I wish every female would read this book. I commend the (male) author, Michael Henderson, for this inspiring and practical grass roots biographical book. Each one of the women in this book have made the world a better place to live in. These are the real live heroines movies should be made of. Their names may not be widely known, but they should be.

Amelia Earhart-Young Aviator
Amelia Earhart was a very courageous young pilot, and she helped inspire young women to fly. In the book, Amelia Earhart: Young Aviator, by Beatrice Gormley, in the Childhood of Famous Americans series, the author describes Amelia Earhart as extraordinarily brave. This book tells almost everything a person would want to know about Amelia Earhart.

Amelia flew her plane until she wanted to retire. Before she retired, though, she wanted to make one last record-breaking flight. She planned to fly around the entire world, making stops only to refuel her plane. Near one of the islands she was supposed to land at, she mysteriously disappeared into the fog. No one knows what happened to her. We don't even know where she lies. We just know of her great achievements.
